The upcoming recital series by Yuja Wang comes with an unusual proposition: the programme will not be announced in advance. Audiences will not know what they are going to hear until Yuja sits down at the piano; a deliberate break with the traditional idea of the printed programme, intended to recover a musical experience free from prior knowledge.
The format follows a set of very specific rules: there will be no advance announcement of the programme, no applause between pieces, and the performance will unfold continuously. The programme will only be revealed after the concert. Full details of the works performed will be published on the website of each presenting organisation once the concert has ended.
In the artist’s own words: “I want the audience to come without expectations, without a preconceived idea of what they are going to hear. Just the moment and the music, experienced with open ears and without interruption. To experience the music itself, rather than the expectation of what it is going to be.”
