Schools have remained closed following heavy damage caused by heavy rain in French Polynesia’s main island of Tahiti over the past three days.

Fallen trees have also heavily impacted power lines in the same region and several roads have had to be closed to traffic, the French High Commission reported.
Several houses in the area have also suffered heavy flooding, causing damage to their property, especially inside their houses.
Over one hundred households are reported to have been affected, especially by power cuts.
Local power company EDT is gradually restoring power to the affected areas.
In Tahiti’s neighbouring island of Moorea, students have been advised to stay at home at least for the next two days.
Due to debris on the round-the-island road on the eastern side of Tahiti, authorities are now advising to use only the western part of the ring road.
The most affected areas are French Polynesia’s Windward and Leeward islands groups.
Heavy rains are expected to continue for several days into the week, French public broadcaster Météo France warned and maintained the risk level to “Orange” – heavy rains.
Authorities have also advised the general public to avoid outings and not to engage into flooded roads, by foot or onboard a vehicle (even 4 wheel drive) and not to approach flooded rivers.
