With an open and unprejudiced outlook, GIO Symphonia and Frames Percussion join forces in a concert that explores the bridges —and tensions— between classical and contemporary languages. The program features composers who have redefined the boundaries of musical creation, from the polyphonic and ironic force of Alfred Schnittke’s Polyphonic Tango to the vibrant colourism of Altar de neón by Mexican Gabriela Ortiz, guest composer of the Palau’s 25–26 season. The concert also embraces the new sonorities of post-minimalist creation and a more evocative atmosphere, with works by figures such as Ludovico Einaudi, Ólafur Arnalds, Hania Rani, Max Richter, and David Lang.

In this concert, the music of the current generation of composers considered minimalist engages in dialogue with the works of Cristina Iglesias (San Sebastián, 1956), one of the most prominent voices in contemporary sculpture, who is currently exhibiting at La Pedrera some thirty works inspired by nature and ritual. The exhibition Passages, organized by the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera, can be visited from October 9 to January 25, 2026.

Born from the encounter between GIO Symphonia and Frames Percussion, and in dialogue with the evocative images of Cristina Iglesias’s works, this immersive and aesthetically hybrid proposal celebrates artistic freedom as a creative driving force and embodies the spirit of the Palau Fronteres series: opening windows to new sound horizons.
