KOROR, Palau (July 16, 2026) — Western Caroline Trading Company (WCTC) announced this week that its Desekel Mart branch in Ngerbeched will permanently close on July 31, ending years of service to customers in the community.
“After many wonderful years serving you in Desekel, our store will be closing on July 31, 2026,” the company said in a press release.
The company thanked customers for their support, saying, “Thank you for your continued loyalty. Our roots in the Ngerbeched community will always remain strong.”
WCTC said it is actively seeking a new site and hopes to resume operations in the future.
“We are actively working to securing a new location and we hope to reopen our doors for you soon,” the company said.
Credible sources told Island Times that the closure follows the expiration of the store’s lease and unsuccessful negotiations between WCTC and the property owner over new contract terms.
Sources familiar with the discussions said disagreements over terms of the lease were a major factor in the breakdown of negotiations. The property occupied by Desekel Mart is owned by Laurentino Ulechong, according to sources.
Island Times sought additional comment from WCTC regarding the closure and the status of its search for a new location but did not receive a response by press time.
Beyond confirming that it intends to relocate, the company did not provide details on a potential reopening timeline or possible future site for the store.
