A tropical disturbance that formed near Palau was upgraded to Tropical Depression 02W and could become a tropical storm Wednesday night as it makes its way toward the Philippines.
The National Weather Service said there are no tropical cyclone watches and warnings in effect for Palau or Yap.
That’s because TD 02W is located well west of these locations and tropical storm force winds, or maximum sustained winds of 39 miles per hour or more, are not expected across any islands of the NWS Guam region.
TD 02W is expected to make a turn toward the west and then west-northwest in the coming days as it approaches the Philippines.
The Philippines is now bracing for Tropical Depression “Basyang,” maintaining its strength as it moves southwestward over the east of Mindanao.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration, PAGASA, now expects “Basyang” to make its first landfall in eastern Mindanao Thursday evening or Friday morning.

At 1 p.m. Wednesday, TD 02W was located 155 miles northwest of Koror, Palau near 8.7 degrees north 132.7 degrees east.
It was moving west-southwest at 7 mph with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.
It is expected to make a turn toward the west and then west-northwest in the coming days as it approaches the Philippines.
NWS said it could become a tropical storm Wednesday night. Strong winds, heavy showers and thunderstorms are found generally west to north of the center.
However, showers are found across western Yap State.

TD 02W was previously tropical disturbance Invest 94W.
It is now the second tropical cyclone of 2026 in the western North Pacific, NWS said.
Because it is located within the NWS Guam area of responsibility, the agency will be issuing public advisories every six hours on TD 02W.
