The Academy of Cinema, together with RNE, pay tribute to Gonzalo Suárez, Honorary Goya 2026. The Academy’s Board of Directors has unanimously decided to grant this honorary award to the veteran Asturian filmmaker for “a career in which he has developed a remarkable filmography, experimenting with all forms of commercial cinema and literary adaptations, both his own and those of others. A key figure in Spanish culture over the past sixty years, he is also an unquestionable reference for intelligence and sense of humor.”

Audio Fiction: Remando al viento (Rowing with the Wind)

Gonzalo Suárez will receive the award in the city where he made his first films and published his first books and, to celebrate his cinema, an audio fiction adaptation of one of his most emblematic films has been produced: Remando al viento, which won 6 Goya Awards, including Best Director. The audio fiction will be preceded by a conversation with Gonzalo Suárez himself.

The initiative consists of a dramatized reading of the feature film performed by renowned actors and actresses from the national scene and will be broadcast live from the Palau de la Música before an audience. Featuring Nathalie Poza (Mary), Miki Esparbé (Shelley), Fernando Cayo (Byron), Marian Álvarez (Claire), and Víctor Clavijo (Polidori).
