Palau d’Esports L’Illa in Benidorm hosted the 14th annual Christmas Sports, Leisure, and Recreation Fair this morning. This event, aimed at 6th-grade students from all the municipality’s schools, took place before the Christmas holidays and was attended by nearly a thousand students aged 10 and 11. The fair began at 9:30 a.m. and continued until 1:00 p.m., during which time the students enjoyed a wide variety of recreational and sporting activities.

Benidorm City Council’s Sports Councillor, Javier Jordá, and the Education Councillor, Maite Moreno, travelled to Palau along with other members of the local government to support the students in this activity, which is one of the most anticipated of the year for providing children with plenty of fun.

The Children’s Christmas Sports Fair, organised by the Department of Sports, aims to fill a space in young people’s leisure time beyond conventional sports, connecting them with alternative sporting activities they can discover through their participation in the event.

The City Council’s sports technicians, along with students from the TSEAS (Higher Technician in Teaching and Socio-Sports Animation) and the TGMNTL (Technician in Guiding in the Natural Environment and Leisure) programs at Lope de Vega High School, were responsible for leading and running all the activities and games.

After visiting the fair, both Jordá and Moreno emphasised that “the objective of this activity, which was to provide a morning of sports and games for these children of Benidorm, has been more than fulfilled,” and they expressed their gratitude for the work of all the teachers, municipal staff, and collaborators involved.

Food donation to the Red Cross

Furthermore, as is customary each year, this fair also had a charitable aspect. During the event, donations of non-perishable food items were collected from participating schools and students, and then given to the local Red Cross branch for distribution to families in need.
