KOROR, Palau – (May 7, 2026) “Nurses are special people, because of all professions, they serve from the heart,” said Vice President and Minister of Health & Human Services Raynold Oilouch as Palau officially marked National Nurses Week in recognition of the dedication and service of nurses across the country.

“Nurses are special people, because of all professions, they serve from the heart,” said Vice President and Minister of Health & Human Services Raynold Oilouch as Palau officially marked National Nurses Week.

In Presidential Proclamation No. 26-426, President Surangel S. Whipps Jr. declared May 6-12, 2026 as Palau National Nurses Week under the theme, “Empowered Nurses Save Lives: Care in Action, Humility in Heart.”

The proclamation recognizes nurses as the largest group of healthcare professionals in Palau and highlights their critical role in hospitals, clinics, homes and communities throughout the country.

The document also notes the growing demand for nursing services due to emerging diseases, an aging population, advancing medical technology and preventive healthcare programs. It states that nurses remain essential in ensuring access to quality healthcare and transforming healthcare systems so no one is left behind.

The proclamation acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Health & Human Services Division of Nursing, private clinics, Palau Community College and the Palau Nurses Association in expanding healthcare access and strengthening the nursing profession.

President Whipps called on the public to honor nurses not only during National Nurses Week, but throughout the year for their commitment to compassionate, culturally competent and high-quality care.  (Full disclosure:  This article was edited in part with the use of artificial intelligence.)
