India on Tuesday confirmed that all 24 Indian nationals aboard the Palau-flagged vessel MT Marivex, which was targeted and disabled off the coast of Oman following communication with the US Navy, have been rescued safely.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the Indian Embassy in Oman coordinated closely with Omani authorities and maritime agencies to ensure the crew’s rescue.

Addressing the media, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the vessel had become disabled near the Oman coast and that New Delhi was aware of an exchange between the ship and the US Navy before the incident.
“The ship MT Marivex was disabled off the coast of Oman. We have learned that it is a Palau-flagged vessel. We also understand there was some exchange of communication between the ship and the US Navy before the incident,” Jaiswal said.

He added that all 24 crew members onboard were Indian nationals and had been rescued safely.

“They all have been rescued and are safe. Our embassy, for the rescue purpose, contacted the Omani authorities, who swung into action,” he said.

According to the MEA, the Indian Embassy in Muscat immediately coordinated with the Omani government, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), and India’s Shipping Ministry after receiving information about the incident.

The ministry also expressed gratitude to Oman for its swift response.

“We are grateful to the Omani government for its excellent support in rescuing the crew and ensuring their safety. Our mission continues to be in touch with the seafarers,” Jaiswal said.
