The installation of the new wastewater pipeline at Palau d’Esports l’Illa de Benidorm and the replacement of the existing pumping station are progressing as planned. This project, which was visited this morning by the Councillor for the Water Cycle, José Ramón González de Zárate, also includes the installation of a sewage network, which was previously nonexistent, for the homes in the Salt de l’Aigua area.

The budget for this project amounts to €568,574.57, financed by the Renewal Funds of Veolia, the concessionaire for the Integrated Water Cycle, and carried out by the company Mediterránea de Obras y Asfaltos S.A. The reason for undertaking this project was that the Palau d’Esports is located in an area where the sewage network either does not exist or is still under development. Therefore, since the construction of the sports complex, wastewater disposal has been carried out using a pumping station located on the premises.

“Due to recurring operational problems at the pumping station, with periodic issues in its operation and maintenance, it was deemed appropriate to commission the drafting of a technical solution to guarantee the efficient disposal of wastewater most sustainably and reliably,” explained the councillor.

The project involves installing a new gravity-fed sewer line that will eliminate the existing pumping station, reducing energy consumption, maintenance costs, and the risk of spills due to pump failure. This new sewer line will connect to the main network on Esperanto and Kennedy streets, in the section closest to Europa Avenue. González de Zárate specified that with the execution of this project, “we will resolve some wastewater disposal problems that occurred relatively frequently at the Palau, and we are continuing with the renewal of all the hydraulic infrastructure to further advance in the efficient management of water.” The project will also provide homes in the area with a sewage system, which they will need to connect to until now.

At this point, González de Zárate reiterated that “we are providing service to the Salt de l’Aigua school community, the users of the Palau d’Esports, and the residents of the area, who will now have access to a sewage system to eliminate the septic tanks that still exist.”
