Koror, Palau, is abuzz with excitement and intrigue, as athletes from around Oceania congregate for one of the region’s biggest sporting events: the 2025 Pacific Mini Games from 29 June to 9 July.
Featuring close to 1,500 athletes, representing 24 national and territorial teams across 14 sports, this bite-sized sporting event packs quite the punch on the international calendar, offering Oceanian athletes a rare opportunity to compete amongst themselves for titles, medals and regional bragging rights.
Entry is open to all members of the Pacific Games Council, as well as the invited teams of Australia and New Zealand, with athletes from the latter two nations first competing in 2017 due to concerns that they would dominate events.
This will be the second edition of the Pacific Mini Games held in Palau, after the island nation first welcomed the “mini,” but mighty, multi-sports competition in 2005. New Caledonia topped the medal table on that occasion and will look to do so again in the coming weeks.
However, before any medals can be awarded and anthems played, the event must first be officially opened during the opening ceremony on 29 June at the National Stadium in Koror.
