Andrea Motis grew up studying and performing the music of jazz icons such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, and Sarah Vaughan, among many others. But there is one artist she feels especially close to, because her music became a kind of therapy during a difficult personal period in her life, between the ages of 15 and 18: “I listened to Amy Winehouse’s music and felt very close to her, like a friend who tried to comfort me during a personal healing process.” “I would play her music in the morning,” Motis continues, “and I felt truly empowered. I saw myself reflected in everything it suggested to me: sadness, anger, pain, but also the rebellious spirit to overcome it all and move forward. I owed her that tribute.” After its great success at its premiere at the Barcelona Jazz Festival, To Amy returns. Joining Motis on this journey are the Barcelona Gospel Messengers, led by Ramon Escalé, in their full lineup. A powerful collaboration that promises an intense and unforgettable night.
