The Cook Islands has been named as Oceania’s Leading Island Destination for a fourth consecutive year at the 2026 World Travel Awards (WTA).
The awards, often referred to as the ‘Oscars’ of the travel industry, recognised the Cook Islands ahead of seven other Pacific Island countries, including Fiji, Tahiti and Palau.
According to the Cook Islands News, the WTA recognise and celebrate excellence across the global travel and tourism industry, with winners selected through voting by tourism professionals and consumers worldwide.
“This award reflects the hard work of everyone across our tourism sector, from accommodation providers and tour operators to our airline partners,” Cook Islands Tourism Corporation director of sales and marketing Noeline Mateariki said.
She said the award recognises the Cook Islands people, whose warm hospitality makes the destination what it is.
“Being named Oceania’s Leading Island Destination gives us a powerful endorsement to share with travellers and trade partners around the world.”
The Cook Islands was formally recognised at the WTA Asia, Oceania & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony 2026 on 27 September in the Maldives.
