The Australian Government, in agreement with Qantas, will extend the Palau Paradise Express direct air service between Brisbane and Koror through to 30 November 2027, in response to strong passenger growth.

Qantas will also increase flights to twice weekly during Palau’s peak season, starting this December.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese made the announcement following a meeting with his Palauan counterpart, President Surangel Whipps Jr., while in Koror, Palau for the 55th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting.

This will provide additional flexibility for travellers, give more Australians the chance to visit one of the Pacific’s premier destinations and strengthen Palau’s economy through tourism and business opportunities.

The Palau Paradise Express has carried more than 15,400 passengers since its commencement in 2024, quadrupling passenger traffic to Palau from Australia and Oceania from pre-COVID levels.

In 2025, the service contributed an estimated $10 million to Palau’s economy and grew total visitor expenditure by 26%.

Quotes attributable to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese

“Palau is a close friend of Australia. This announcement will allow more Australians to visit this stunning Pacific holiday destination and ensure connections between our countries grow even stronger.

“The Palau Paradise Express is a significant contributor to Palau’s economy and this expansion will deliver a steady boost for tourism and business operators across the region.”

Quotes attributable to Minister for Pacific Island Affairs Pat Conroy

“Palau is a great place to visit, and that’s why this route has been so popular. I’m pleased more Australians will now be able to get there easily on the Paradise Express.

“This is about building stronger connections with Pacific neighbours, at the same time as boosting Palau’s economy through tourism.”

Quotes attributable to Vanessa Hudson, Chief Executive Officer, Qantas Group

“As the national carrier, we’re proud to be working with the Australian Government to keep Australia and Palau connected.

“A second weekly service in the peak season means more Australians can experience one of the Pacific’s most extraordinary destinations, and more visitors for the local tourism operators who depend on them.”
