Palauans Pray for Dr. Victor Yano After Medivac to Manila for Emergency Care

Longtime Palauan physician Dr. Victor Yano has been medivaced to Manila for emergency medical care after falling ill at his home in Airai. KOROR, Palau — Dr. Victor Yano, one of Palau’s most respected physicians and longtime healthcare leaders, was medivaced to Manila on Wednesday, July 29, for emergency medical treatment after falling ill at his home in Oikull, Airai.

Yano became ill on Tuesday and was taken to a hospital for evaluation. On Wednesday, an air ambulance arrived in Palau and transported him to St. Luke’s Medical Center in the Philippines, where he is receiving emergency care.

As of press time, no update on Dr. Yano’s current medical condition had been released.

News of Yano’s illness has deeply affected many in Palau, where generations of residents have considered him their primary physician and trusted healthcare provider. Many Palauans have shared their concern and support, offering prayers and well-wishes for his recovery.

A pioneer in Palau’s private healthcare system, Yano has dedicated more than 45 years to serving the people of Palau. In 1981, he opened Palau’s first private medical clinic, expanding access to healthcare services for the community.

Throughout his distinguished career, Yano has held several key leadership roles, including serving as Palau’s Minister of Health and as a member of the Palau Healthcare Governing Board for more than a decade.

Known for his compassion, dedication, and lifelong commitment to patient care, Yano has earned widespread respect from patients, colleagues, and the broader community.

As Palau awaits further updates on his condition, residents continue to offer messages of support and prayers for the recovery of a physician who has spent decades caring for the health and well-being of the nation.
